Open Educational Resources [OER] are teaching and learning materials that are free and shared openly on the web. The OER movement was started in an effort to curb high textbook costs for students. Today the movement has expanded to include textbooks, learning modules, graphics, video and even massive open online courses [MOOCS].
Several years ago at Lane, the ASLCC funded a research project around the idea of faculty replacing textbooks and course materials with low-to-no cost OER alternatives. Academic Technology joined the cause and the OER movement at Lane was off and running.
You can participate in the future of education by exploring your OER options.
