Unit Start Here: Group Choice

What to Expect: Easy Mode - Slides and presentations are widely used in teaching, workshops, and training, now let’s make them accessible. In this unit you will be taking your own, or a provided slide deck and making it accessible. This is applying many of the skills you have learned already so this will feel semi familiar. This may be easy mode but it can’t be a walk in the park though, so a key aspect that will be looked at is those accessibility features that are unique to slideshows such as slide layout, text size, color contrast in presentation, and reading order. Join this section to get your presentations up to par for all of your students!

What to Expect: Normal Mode - Video and Audio has been around for a while now and is the content of the future. Learn how you can make your video and audio accessible for your students by using a streaming service for your content, applying machine captioning/transcript, and taking the last, most important step, editing the captions for accuracy. You know your content best so you will be doing this yourself! You can use your own content, or if you don’t have a video, use the provided one. We don’t mind either way!

What to Expect: Hard Mode - PDFs can be tricky but sometimes you have to do it. You don’t have the original document but you have a PDF. This unit will be having you make a PDF accessible. This will be one of your own or a provided one, whichever you prefer. You will then check it with Adobe’s Accessibility Checker and Ally’s checker in Moodle. This will be a bit more challenging and may take some self-directed troubleshooting as PDFs bring up the complexity. You will have your support resources along the way of course!
