Viewing the Calendar

As a student, it can be challenging to maintain a calendar with all the projects and homework you receive. To assist you in staying organized, Moodle has a calendar. The Calendar is a great way for your teachers to communicate important events to you. It can assist you in completing activities on time.
The calendar provides a centralized view of course events. You can view the current month, previous months, and future months. It outlines the current date for easy identification. The dates in the calendar are generated by any activity (e.g., quiz, test) with an availability date in your course. If your teacher does not set these, the dates will not automatically populate in the Calendar.
To access the calendar, you can:
- Go to My Classes/My Courses and select the View my calendar link located under Deadlines, or go to the footer of the page (in Snap only).
- Go to the Calendar block and click the month/year (e.g., May 2012).
- Go to the Upcoming events block (if available on your site) and click the Go to calendar link.
The Calendar includes five types of events:
- Global: These events are viewable in all courses and can only be created by a site administrator.
- Category: These events are viewable for all courses in a category and can only be created by a site administrator.
- Course: Your teachers create these events and they are viewable only within a course.
- Group: Your teachers create these events and they are viewable only by members of specific groups.
- User: This is a private event created by an individual user and it is viewable only by that user. As a student you are able to add events to your own calendar.
Notice the key at the bottom of the calendar. The different types of events have different background colors. These colors are determined by the site theme (look-and-feel) your institution chooses.
You can determine which event types display in the calendar. To hide an event type, click the
icon. To unhide it, click the
icon.
