Hello Instructors,
Due to some critical missing features, we will not be transitioning everyone to the new TinyMCE HTML editor at this time. We will stick with the existing editor (ATTO) throughout the 2024 Summer Term and hopefully be able to make the transition in the Fall.
As with any upgrade, my aim is to ensure a seamless transition without reducing functionality. Over the past several months, we have been unable to fully verify integrations for multimedia content like Kaltura and H5P with our Moodle host (OpenLMS).
Additionally, we've determined that the new TinyMCE editor is missing basic features such as a Color Picker for customizing text color, Spell Check for real-time spelling corrections, and Auto Linking Controls to prevent automatic hyperlinking of text.
Some of these functions are only available through premium licensing and we are investigating the costs associated with enabling these features.
Please note that all other planned changes will proceed as scheduled:
- YuJa Panorama Accessibility Checker will be implemented on June 17th.
- Site-wide upgrade to Moodle v4.3 will take place on July 11th (12:30am-2:30am).
Note: Users will no longer have access to the old TinyMCE (Legacy) editor but will be able to switch between the new TinyMCE editor and Atto.
Thank you for your understanding and change in plans.
-Josh
