Instructors,
Moodle’s standard login (L# and password) is now working again. You and your students should be able to log in normally.
What happened?
The issue began around 10 AM yesterday when our Moodle host (OpenLMS) made an unannounced change in how it handles secure connections. Because our campus systems utilize an older version of TLS (a cryptographic protocol that provides security and privacy for network communications), logins were abruptly rejected. This error was not caused by any internal changes or campus IT action.
OpenLMS has been asked for a full investigation into why this occurred without notice and I’ll share any updates they provide me to whomever is interested.
Acknowledgment:
Our IT colleagues don’t always get the credit they deserve. Phil Anderson jumped in right away to troubleshoot and confirm the issue, and Ed Radza engineered and deployed the solution that restored service. Their swift, effective work solved the problem before we had any actionable guidance from our host, and it made the difference in getting access restored quickly. If you see them around campus, consider thanking them — or better yet, buy them a coffee.
At this point, standard login should function as expected. If you or your students still encounter problems logging in, please follow up with the ATC (atc@lanecc.edu) or myself.
