Students present reading of "The Long Now" on May 11
|
|
|
|
|
Rachael Carnes was a recent recipient of LCC's Jane King Artist Residency Grant. During her residency she wrote the play "The Long Now." This absurdist comedy is about living in difficult times with little to no functioning social system and the dehumanizing effects of being tied to an unfulfilling job. The Student Production Association will present a developmental reading of the play on Thursday, May 11, 2023, 5 pm at the Blue Door Theater (Building 6). Admission is free with donations welcomed at the door. No reservations needed. Come be part of the future life of this play. Audience feedback will possibly affect future rewrites and future productions of this new play. Appropriate for all ages.

Job Fair is on May 18, tips on what to wear, nice resumes

Job Fair 2023
! Thursday, May 18, 1-5 pm in Building 19, Room 100 (lobby).
Students and community members can connect with local and regional employers who are hiring for full-time, part-time, and seasonal positions.
-
New Tip: Plan what you will wear. You’ll want to dress more professionally than your typical school-day attire. Looking clean, neat, and well-groomed is the goal, in a nice shirt, pants, skirt, etc. Think of what you might wear to work each day for the employers that interest you and dress like that…or…even a bit “nicer.”
-
New Tip: Print your targeted resume(s). Visit our office (1/226) and we’ll give you five copies of nice resume paper!
-
Tip: Continue to research employers, prepare questions, and target your resume to specific employers.
-
Tip: Attend a virtual
“Prepare for the Job Fair” workshop
, focused on creating strong resumes and talking with employers.

What to bring to have an impactful tutoring session
|
|
|
|
|
|
If your instructor has provided a written assignment description (in Moodle or somewhere else accessible) and/or grading rubric that includes specific requirements and expectations, please be prepared to go over this with your tutor. Tutors are better able to support you in an impactful way when we can read through the instructor’s requirements and expectations. Additionally, it’s immensely helpful to have access to this documentation, written in the instructor’s own words, to refer back to by both us and you as uncertainties and the need for clarification arise during tutoring sessions.
As a reminder, tutoring is happening both on campus and in the
Lane Support Hub Zoom Room
. For specific information on location and hours of each center, please visit our
tutoring site
to get the most accurate, up-to-date information. As always, drop-ins are welcome, but
making an appointment
is encouraged to guarantee time with a tutor.

The Library is
open
and all of our resources and services are available. Books, printing, study rooms, research databases, and more. The remediation work is still happening, but we are here for you. While the space is a little noisy, we have lots of ear plugs!
Reserve a Group Study Room + Quiet spaces
A few Library Study Rooms are in the construction zone and inaccessible, so please be sure
reserve a Study Room
in advance. Study Rooms seat 2 - 12 students for study, collaboration, and projects. We also have a Quiet Study room inside the Library on the 3rd floor if you need a silent space to study on your own. Another Quiet Study space is located outside the Libraryon the 3rd floor above the food court. Let us know if you need help finding a quiet place to think, rest, or just hang out!
Library Student Survey
Tell us how you really feel! Please take a moment to answer a few questions so we can learn how you use the Library (or don't), and make the Library even better! Take the
Library Student Survey
through May 2023. Enter your name for fun raffle prizes. We need your voice!
National Library Week reflection
Do you value access to books, information, and self-expression? Libraries support all kinds of thinking and knowing, and provide resources on important subjects that might be difficult for some people. Over the last few years, books bans and censorship have increased exponentially in the US. Learn more about the
Right to Read Day
and take action for your own right to read freely.
