Hello Instructors,

Summer 2024 courses are now available in Moodle. Student enrollments will be added 1 week prior to the beginning of the term (Monday, June 17th, 2024). If you don’t see your section listed, check the class schedule to ensure your department administrator has added you as the instructor of record.

➡️ To help you close out a previous course or to open an upcoming course you can follow our recommended Moodle course Start of Term and End of Term procedures.

🎓 Reminder: Moodle Summer Updates on the Horizon

Moodle's upgrade to v4.3 (Tentative ETA July 13th) will contain both changes in v4.2 and changes in v4.3. This includes several highly anticipated feature improvements such as course bulk editing, collapsible grade book columns & filters, activity indentation, and course activity condensed layout.

In an effort to minimize user interface changes for students, the new default HTML editor (TinyMCE editor) and accessibility icon (YuJa Panorama Accessibility Checker) changes will appear prior to the beginning of the Summer term (Monday, June 17th, 2024).

🔌 GradeMe Block: Cleared for usage in courses! Dashboard deployment ETA = July.
The code has been successfully updated to ensure the block is completely hidden from students!

ProTip: When added to the right-hand side of a course, the GradeMe Block lists submitted assignments and manual quiz questions (such as essays and file responses) that need grading.

🔌 Hypothes.is: A recently Added Moodle Activity Type
Do you have classroom discussions? Looking for enhance your toolkit? Hypothes.is brings content and conversation together with a layer of social annotation that works with documents and web resources across the entire web. Hypothesis allows students to highlight readings and view comments from classmates to validate ideas and make new connections. Grades now show up directly in Moodle's gradebook!

Feel free to directly connect with colleagues Colin Phifer (phiferc@lanecc.edu) and Kate Sullivan (sullivank@lanecc.edu), who have been successfully leveraging social annotation activities in their classes and are open to sharing their experiences.

🤖Zoom AI Test Group
Zoom's new AI features, including AI Meeting Summaries, AI Companions, and AI Smart Recordings, are transforming virtual instruction with enhanced engagement tools, editable highlights, and robust privacy measures. 📅 Lunch & Learn: Personalized Learning Designer (PLD) Tuesday, May 14, 2024 | 1pm-2:30pm
Have you ever heard of PLD when referring to Moodle? No? It is not surprising. Many have never heard of it, or don’t know how best to use it. Is it A.I. or A.I.-like? A great way to think about PLD is that it’s like having an automated course assistant—one that helps instructors keep track of learner behavior and a pulse on the overall course. In this session, we look at what PLD is, how it works, the best ways to use it, and how to create them for your classes.

Complete the registration form to attend and embark on this exciting journey with us. Sessions held in the Center Building, room 219 (ATC Classroom).

Send us your Summer META course requests!
Submit a meta course request (online google form) or email the ATC (atc@lanecc.edu) before the term begins.

➡️ For those new to Metacourses: a Metacourse allows you to combine enrollments from multiple course sections into a single Moodle course shell — reducing the need to duplicate resources, activities, etc. when you are teaching multiple sections or course sharing between multiple instructors.

ℹ️  Academic Technology Center (ATC) Support
