Instructors,
As of this morning, student summer 2020 enrollments are now syncing with your Moodle courses. By default, courses are not set to "show" to enrolled students and they will not have access to your course until you update the course visibility setting.
➡️ Here is a guide that will walk you through how to make your course visible to students.
Hint: To help you close out a previous course or to open an upcoming course you can follow our recommended Moodle course Start of Term and End of Term procedures.
🔖 Tip: Extending Student Access To Your Course
By default, students are unable to access completed courses. When a "course end date" has passed, the course is visually relocated from “Current Courses” over to a dated tab (i.e. 2020, 2019, 2018) inside Moodle's dashboard and the course is hidden from students before the next term begins. However, instructors can extend course access to specific individuals or the entire class. If an extension is given, manually adjusting the "course end date" may help avoid confusion from students.
⚠️ Service Interruption: Summer Upgrade to Moodle v3.8
Our Moodle host will be performing a scheduled software upgrade on Thursday, July 9th from 12:30am to approximately 6:30am (PST). During this update, classes.lanecc.edu will be unreachable, intermittent and or slow to respond. Actual downtime is typically less than the hours allotted, but please plan accordingly. An additional notice will be sent out during the week as a reminder.
Moodle v3.8 adds a few new features, enhancements, and bug fixes. Here’s what we’re most excited about:
Forums can now be graded instead of using the clunky rating system. If you use forums a lot, and like to grade participation, this feature alone might be a game changer! Other forum improvements include:
- Display the entire discussion for a post being graded
- Grading option to notify students or search for specific students
- Exportable detailed summary report of student forum activity
- A new experimental nested discussion view.
