Instructors,

Welcome to week 6 of the term! Many of you already have access to Winter 2025 courses and enrollments in Moodle (see recent changes to course rollout procedures)If you don’t see your section listed, check the class schedule to ensure your department administrator has added you as the instructor of record.

🤕 YuJa Accessibility Woes

YuJa Panorama is the accessibility tool embedded into all courses that helps make course documents more inclusive for all students. I need to highlight a significant issue that’s come to my attention:

While remediated versions of your documents are correctly shown to students in your current class, they’re stored on YuJa’s servers, and the original documents stored in Moodle aren't updated. This means when you copy your course for the next term, the remediation work doesn't carry over, and you’ll need to address any accessibility concerns on those files again (complete waste of time).

I have joined other Moodle schools in advocating the vendor replicate functionality currently available in their Canvas integration. For now, the best "solution" I can suggest is that instructors manually download and re-upload any documents remediated through the YuJa accessibility wizards. I know this adds extra work and feels counterintuitive. However, your individual efforts to make content more accessible are invaluable while we try and secure a more permanent solution.

🎁 Sign-On with Google or Microsoft Credentials

This past summer, I quietly rolled out a new feature that makes logging into classes.lanecc.edu smoother: you can now use your institutional (@my.lanecc.edu or @lanecc.edu) Google or Microsoft credentials! I'm thrilled to share that it’s already made a big difference for many students, who no longer have to wrestle with remembering their L# and password—just their email login.

And it's not just a win for students! Teachers, rejoice in the convenience of one less click.

🗒️ Tip: Uploading Google or Microsoft Drive or Files Directly From The File Picker

No more downloading and re-uploading files—just connect your drive to Moodle (either by using the SSO option noted above or click & sign-in when browsing), and you’re ready to share documents, presentations, or spreadsheets in a snap — even from shared TEAM drives. It’s a simple way to save time!

* Files must be in a downloadable format (not collaborative documents like Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides) and certain shared permissions or large file sizes may cause hiccups.

🧩 W.W. Norton Integration Update to LTI v1.3
I've already emailed those of you who I believe will be affected. W.W. Norton is upgrading their integration on December 23rd, 2024, over winter break. The timeline for restoration depends on the publisher, but I expect it to be ready by the end of that week. It’s still uncertain if instructors will need to do additional setup before the winter term. If you experience any issues with links or setup before January 6th, please let me know!
